A short checklist based on official guidance. See sources at the bottom for full details.

Shelter in a safe place; protect your head/neck.
Indoors: if possible turn off the main breaker and shut off water/gas; do not use elevators.
Stay in an interior room with few/no windows (bathroom/corridor); keep doors and windows closed.
Outdoors: stay away from power lines and overpasses; move to a low, safe area.

Stay away from damaged buildings and power lines; follow official announcements.
Take photos for insurance; use only a battery flashlight (no candles/lighters).
